Monte-Carlo Masters – Before the final

Okay then, the semi-finals are finished for the day and it seems we have been given the final none of us really wanted – Ruud vs Tsitsipas…there is still hope though tennis fans, let’s take a look at the stats and see what we have.

Tsitsipas leads the h2h 3-2 and both have won a match against one another on clay, albeit these were in 2016 and 2021 respectively. Ruud and Tsitsipas are both clay specialists we know that, so who do I think the surface overall slightly favours? Well, I believe Tsitsipas’ game ever so slightly suits clay more than Ruud’s game. The reason for this is that I believe Tsitsipas’ backhand is not such an easy target on clay as it is on hard. Will opponents still target his backhand on clay? Yes of course, but the clay gives Tsitsipas slightly more time to prepare and see the ball. Anyway, lets dig a bit deeper into some interesting stats so far for the tournament –

Service hold %

90.3% for Ruud and 85.7% for Tsitsipas

Return Pts Won %

43.3% for Ruud and 43.1% for Tsitsipas

1st Serve Points Won %

72.9% for Ruud and 73.2% for Tsitsipas

Won first set %

100% for Ruud and 100% for Tsitsipas

2nd Serve Points Won %

57.3% for Ruud and 56.1% for Tsitsipas

Break Points Saved %

53.3% for Ruud and 70.8% for Tsitsipas

So what do some of the stats say? Well they indicate for sure that both players are incredibly equal so far for the tournament. Both players have decent service hold %s and both players have won the first set in every match. The only real slight discrepancy is that Tsitsipas has been more consistent in regards to saving break points. This is going to be a very tight match, I think there is the potential for 3 sets and I am going to say Tsitsipas to win in 3! What do you guys think? Be sure to let me know in the comments below!
